THE
FLOATING  DOCK

floating dock.jpg

A floating dock is a bold and unusual feature on a 58m I 191' yacht; it is more commonly found only on yachts of 70m l 230' and above.

On ODYSSEY, the dock is a compact, deliberately floodable internal basin designed for a single 8.2m l 27' tender. It is seamlessly integrated into and open to the beach club and features rapid fill and empty capabilities, along with transverse access via a shell door engineered to withstand wave loads while maintaining full watertight integrity. ODYSSEY was built in compliance with LY2, LY3 and MCA standards so the structure and system underwent full class approval by Lloyd’s Register.

The floating dock has proven to be an operational success and has been in continuous use since its overhaul and improvement in 2020. The dock can be flooded and the berthed 23’ Nautique launched in approximately 20 minutes by only 3 or 4 crew.

How  does  the  floating  dock  work?

The floating dock is a guest-facing, fully finished luxury space, designed as an integral part of the beach club.

It is equipped with a cradle on which the 23’ Nautique tender rests, a winch for tender retrieval, fixed fender poles for lateral stabilization, and a pump to evacuate water once the tender is undocked.

To flood the dock, the shell door folds upward, allowing controlled flooding of the compartment so the tender rises with the increasing water level. Two wave doors isolate the dock from the open sea when flooded, reducing wave intrusion and enabling safe boarding. The tender then reverses out. Once the shell doors are closed, the pump empties the dock and the doors are closed.

For retrieval, the process is reversed. The dock is flooded, the tender is driven into position 70-80% of the way, and remaining 20-30% recovery is assisted by a 12,000 lb Trailmaxx winch, ensuring quick, controlled and secure handling.

THE
TENDERS

ODYSSEY is well equipped for adventure yachting and water sports. She carries three tenders, two stored on her foredeck together with two Yamaha jet skis and a Yamaha standup ski, while the 7m l 23’ Ski Nautique is stowed in the floating dock garage. Two Seabobs, two 3.9m l 12’ kayaks, and various other toys and diving gear complete the equipment available on board, together with an extensive inflatable marina with pool for the stern, also stowed on the foredeck under the Smuggler tender.

A Narwhal SV 420 4.2m I 13'7" rescue boat and the original MCA-compliant Ascheo crane have been removed from ODYSSEY and are in storage; they are included in the sale if new owner wishes to retrofit for commercial compliance.

The tenders and watercraft on the foredeck are launched using a Nautical Structures EZ4400-FC-EX knuckle crane with a SWL of 4400 lb, while the Nautique is retrieved using a Trailmaxx 12,000 lb winch.

Nautique  G23

The award-winning G23 is one the most popular wake boats in the industry. It is the undisputed boat of choice for professional wake riders but can also cater to beginners with its scalable wakes and waves that can be adjusted to each rider’s skill level. It can carry up to 16 people and, apart from its all-around ability as a ski and wake boat, it’s an excellent tender for a large yacht.

Electrical  Boat  Winch  in  Tender  Garage

The Trailmaxx 12,000lb winch is powered by a 12V DC electric motor with a rated line pull up to 12,000 lbs (≈ 5,443 kg); it has an automatic braking system and a waterproof-rated control box that makes the launching and retrieval of the Nautique tender super-simple and efficiently handled by 3 or 4 crew members.

Davit  on  Foredeck

The Nautical Structures EZ4400-FC-EX knuckle boom crane with SWL of 4400lb is ideal for working with larger tenders, and/or complex layouts. The unique folding design allows for heavy lifting in a package that stows neatly. This davit is not SOLAS approved so, for commercial compliance, a SOLAS approved crane and rescue boat may need to be retrofitted. Perhaps a Nautical Structures crane of the same specifications but built for SOLAS compliance can be retrofitted in order to keep the very intelligent foredeck arrangement the same as there are many water toys smartly arranged here.

On ODYSSEY, nothing has been left to chance. Her outstanding design and engineering were optimized during the 2020 refit to ensure seamless integration of form and function.
